Life on the Pasture

Raised the Way Nature Intended

Our water buffalo spend their days roaming open pastures, grazing freely, cooling off in the water, and living at their own pace. It's a slower, more natural way of farming—and one we believe produces healthier animals and better food.

At Riverine Ranch, our herd is raised on more than 200 acres of preserved farmland in New Jersey's Musconetcong River Valley. Each day begins with fresh pasture, clean water, and the freedom to graze, rest, and socialize. Buffalo are naturally curious and highly social animals, thriving when given the space to move and interact as they choose.

Unlike intensive farming systems, our buffalo are never confined to crowded conditions. They spend much of their day grazing on pasture, lounging in the shade, or cooling off in ponds and mud during warmer months—a natural behavior that helps regulate body temperature and supports their overall well-being. We believe respecting these natural instincts is essential to raising calm, healthy animals.

By keeping our herd intentionally small and caring for each buffalo individually, we're able to provide attentive, low-stress husbandry throughout every stage of life. Healthy animals, healthy land, and thoughtful stewardship are at the heart of everything we do—and that care is reflected in every bottle of milk, every handcrafted cheese, and every cut of meat we produce.
